Here’s The Scoop –

The City of Lander recently signed Joe Diffie to headline a concert on Friday July 5th. The Concert will benefit the new Community Center, which was lost to an electrical fire in June of 2012.

“For Lander to have the opportunity to bring a top notch performer like Diffie to town for such a worthwhile purpose is unbelievable,” noted Councilmember Cade Maestas. Maestas is in charge of fundraising for the community center and noted the concert will be a kick-off for the local fundraising efforts.

Diffie has charted 5 number one singles, including “Third Rock from the Sun”, “Bigger than the Beatles” and “Pickup Man”. Diffie won a Grammy with Marty Stuart in 1998 for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals.

Canadian artist Corb Lund will open for Diffie. Lund is an up-and-coming singer, who was Canadian Country Music Roots Artist of the year (2008-2010) and 2003, 2006, and 2010 JUNO Roots and Traditional Album of the Year. His most popular song is “Truck Got Stuck”.

“I couldn’t be happier with how this has come together,” stated Community Resource Coordinator Gary Michaud. “Everybody knows Lander is the place to be during the week of July 4th, and this concert will be the crown jewel in what is shaping up to be the biggest week of festivities the City has seen in a long time.”

Maestas thanked all those all those who have helped with the Community Center Rebuild efforts so far.  He especially wanted to thank local merchant Tami Olsen, whom Maestas credited with bringing Diffie to Lander.

The Lander Community Center is slated to begin construction in the summer of 2012.  The estimated total construction cost is $5 million.
